Investment for Families

BPEA established its first fund for high net worth families in 2003. This investment program is modeled after the Brooke Family Limited Partnership (BFLP), which is the primary private equity and venture capital investment vehicle for the Brooke Family. The Brooke Family has been investing in the industry for many decades and formally established the BFLP in 1995. The investment results prior to and since the establishment of BFLP have been very strong, while maintaining a moderate risk profile.

The program is based on a balanced and diversified portfolio approach to investing in the asset class. The design of the program is to invest approximately 60% in fund managers and 40% in direct investments. We then weight both the fund and direct allocations approximately 70% to private equity and 30% to venture capital. Finally we weight the fund allocation to smaller and more newly established managers.

In regards to the fund portion of the portfolio, our philosophy is to take a proactive role in fund identification and establishment. The roots of this approach are based on our direct investment experience. We have always found that proactively searching out new opportunities and taking an active role in adding value to our investments has always yielded better results.

On the direct investment side we actively co-invest with the managers we participate with and balance this with our own direct deal flow.

The BPEA investment program will open from time to time so existing investors can allocate additional capital and new investors can have the opportunity to participate.
